Finally….

After some pondering, I have decided to move to BlogSpot.

I’m still in the process of moving my blog posts over- which I will be doing in the next few days, (unless I decide not to), but all new entries will be made here.

What can I say, the fact that I have almost unlimited options to customize the look of my blog and the ‘cascading blogroll’ got me! I plan to make it my last ‘move’ in the next few years at least. Let’s see how I go with that! For now- all I can say is I’m proving Crazy right in calling me ’flakey’. Sigh.

I request you to please change your feed subscriptions/ sidebars/ blogroll stuff to reflect the change, if you may. If you use Google Reader- there is a ‘follow’ option there, too. Also, I had recently figured out how to add non-Wordpress blogs to my WordPress blogroll; give me a howl if you’d like to know (though I suspect that you all do and it’s just me who’s been extremely slow).

Also- if I read your blog regularly, chances are that I have placed you in the blogroll. If you don’t see it listed there, it’s probably because you have not updated it for a while and I have set it to show only 5 ‘most recently updated’ blogs (otherwise it was looking kinda cluttery). But- please let me know if I have missed you (please please!); and I apologise in advance. I promise rectify whoever I missed at my soonest possible.

See you at the other blog!

  1. I am heading over there now…

  2. @ Agnes, Thank you :) . I was worried about losing each one of my old readers!

  3. Trust me, it’s the worst decision you ever made in your blogging life.

  4. @ Sajib,

I would trust you- only if the initial results of moving away were not so favourable.

I am custom-making my theme there (something you cannot do in free WP), getting traffic through Entrecard (something you cannot install in free WP), made a cascading list with the blogs I like reading… and on top of that most (if not all) of my old readers followed me there (thanks to them!)…. so far it’s all going very good…
I’m interested, though, in why you think it was such a grand mistake?

  5. @maussie
Sure someday you’ll realize why this was a mistake. You’re right, free wordpress doesn’t let you modify anything, that’s not their free will, it’s a technical restriction. WordPress.com runs on WP MU so if you modify a theme, it will affect millions of blogs using that theme. So, it’s just not possible.

Now, if you want to modify your template, you may think about self-hosting. It’s true that you’ll have to spend some money for that, but I believe it’s worth it. The time you spend in modifying those code on Blogger won’t work in other stuffs. On the other hand, if you could try out WordPress on self-hosting, modify your theme and everything that you want, you’d be learning php, which will help you always. There are lot more advantages of using WordPress, but I’m just out of time at this moment.

So, though I know you are not going to change your decision, I would just suggest that learn editing/creating wordpress themes. It will help in future. And what you can do with WordPress is never possible with Blogger, even though you try a million times harder.

    Anyway, best of luck.
